“You’re the One That I Want” is a song written by John Farrar for the 1978 film version of the musical Grease. It was performed by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
The single was a huge international hit, reaching no.1 in several countries. It was the only single from the Grease soundtrack to top both the US and UK pop charts. It reached #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 for one week in June 1978, where it sold over 2 million copies. It also topped the UK Singles Chart for nine weeks in the summer of 1978 and, as of 2008, is still the sixth best-selling single ever in the UK where it has sold over 1,975,000 copies. A re-released version of the single reached #4 in the UK in 1998, the twentieth anniversary of the film’s debut.
Olivia Newton John – John Travolta – You’re The One That I Want
Lyrics
I got chills, they’re multiplyin’, and I’m losin’ control
Cause the power you’re supplyin’, it’s electrifyin’
You better shape up, cause I need a man,
and my heart is set on you
You better shape up, you better understand,
to my heart I must be true
Nothing left, nothing left for me to do
Chorus:
You’re the one that I want
(you are the one I want), ooh ooh ooh, honey
The one that I want (you are the one I want),
ooh ooh ooh, honey
The one that I want (you are the one I want),
ooh ooh ooh, honey
The one I need (the one I need),
oh yes indeed (yes indeed)
If you’re filled with affection,
You’re too shy to convey
Meditate my direction, feel your way
I better shape up,
cause you need a man
I need a man,
Who can keep me satisfied
I better shape up, if I’m gonna prove
You better prove, that my fate is justified
Are you sure?
Yes I’m sure down deep inside
[chorus repeats out]
